چکیده

Production of bio-based materials in biorefineries is coupled with the generation organic-rich process-wastewater that requires further management. Anaerobic technologies can be employed as a tool for rectification such hazardous by-products. Therefore, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural and its components were investigated their biodegradability continuous anaerobic process. The test included 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, furfural, levulinic acid, full process-wastewater. Each component was injected individually into continuously operating filter at concentration 0.5 gCOD. On basis large discrepancies within replicates each component, we classified degradation categories “delayed”, “retarded”, “inhibitory”. Inhibitory represented all hampered For retarded degradation, mean methane yield per gCOD between 21.31 ± 13.04 mL 28.98 25.38 mL. Delayed digestion considered adequate assessments which order conversion to according specific from highest lowest follows: acid > furfural Disparities inconsistencies compromise process stability whole. Hence, provision energy feedstock questionable.

Anaerobic Degradation of Nonionic and Anionic Surfactants in Enrichment Cultures and Fixed-bed Reactors

-Anaerobic biodegradation and inhibitory effects of nonionic and anionic surfactants on methanogenic fermentation were tested in incubation experiments with anoxic sediment samples and sewage sludge. Alkylsulfonates and alkylbenzenesulfonates were not degraded but inhibited methanogenesis from sludge constituents at concentrations 1> 10 mg l-k Sodium dodecylsulfate was at least partly degraded ...

Microbial populations associated with fixed- and floating-bed reactors during a two-stage anaerobic process.

Microbial populations associated with methanogenic fixed- or floating-bed bioreactors used for anaerobic digestion of lignocellulosic waste were investigated. Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) was used to characterize microorganisms in samples obtained from different heights in the reactors, which were operated in a semi-continuous manner (feeding and mixing once every 2 days). The FISH ...

Anaerobic degradation of dairy wastewater in intermittent UASB reactors: influence of effluent recirculation.

This work studied the influence of effluent recirculation upon the kinetics of anaerobic degradation of dairy wastewater in the feedless phase of intermittent upflow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) reactors. Several laboratory-scale tests were performed with different organic loads in closed circuit UASB reactors inoculated with adapted flocculent sludge. The data obtained were used for determinati...

Performance, kinetic, and biodegradation pathway evaluation of anaerobic fixed film fixed bed reactor in removing phthalic acid esters from wastewater

Emerging and hazardous environmental pollutants like phthalic acid esters (PAEs) are one of the recent concerns worldwide. PAEs are considered to have diverse endocrine disrupting effects on human health. Industrial wastewater has been reported as an important environment with high concentrations of PAEs. In the present study, four short-chain PAEs including diallyl phthalate (DAP), diethyl pht...

Anaerobic Wastewater Treatment Process

Anaerobic wastewater treatment differs from conventional aerobic treatment. The absence of oxygen leads to controlled conversion of complex organic pollutions, mainly to carbon dioxide and methane. Anaerobic treatment has favourable effects like removal of higher organic loading, low sludge production, high pathogen removal, biogas gas production and low energy consumption. Psychrophilic anaero...
